		Jeff Konin, PhD, ATC, PT, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. He also serves as the Executive Director for the Sports Medicine & Athletic Related Trauma (SMART) Institute, where he has devoted his time to a comprehensive effort to minimize injuries sustained by children playing sports through education, research, and community safety courses. He previously served as the founder and director of The National Center for Youth Sport Injury, a center devoted to educating healthcare providers, parents, coaches, and the media on the etiology, prevention, and management of children’s sports-related injuries. He has been a frequent invited guest speaker, presenting on various sports medicine topics throughout the United States and internationally. Dr. Konin earned a PhD degree in physical therapy from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL, and a master’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Delaware. He holds a master’s degree in education specializing in athletic training and sports medicine from the University of Virginia and bachelor’s degree in health & physical education from Eastern Connecticut State University. Prior to joining USF Health, Dr. Konin was a tenured associate professor and the Director of Sports Medicine at James Madison University. In this role, he coordinated all aspects of student athlete care for 29 teams and approximately 700 athletes, concurrently holding the position of NCAA drug-site coordinator, being responsible for the drug education and testing program. He also held an appointment as a clinical assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at the University of Virginia. Dr. Konin is the author of five textbooks and has served as the series editor for three CD-ROMs.
		Douglas B. McKeag, MD, MS, is Chairman of the Indiana University School of Medicine’s Department of Family Medicine and the OneAmerica Professor of Preventive Health Medicine and the Director of the IU Center for Sports Medicine. After receiving his medical degree from Michigan State University, Dr. McKeag completed a family practice residency and concurrent fellowships in family practice and adolescent medicine. From 1977 to 1995, Dr. McKeag was a member of the department of family practice at Michigan State where he served as the Director of Research, University Coordinator of Sports Medicine, and Associate Chairman of Education. From 1995 to 1999, Dr. McKeag was Director of Primary Care Sports Medicine and Vice Chairman for the Departments of Family Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, where he held the Arthur J. Rooney Sr. Chair for Sports Medicine. Serving as a professional consultant to Kuwait University’s Faculty of Medicine and to Walt Disney Educational Services, Dr. McKeag has also consulted with the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee, University of Louisville, Southern Illinois University, and Indianapolis Colts. He currently serves as the head team physician at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis. Dr. McKeag has been the principal investigator in research grants totaling over $1 million. He continues his involvement with professional medical organizations including the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, the American Board of Family Practice, the North American Primary Care Research Group, the American College of Sports Medicine, the Indiana Academy of Family Physicians, and the American Academy of Family Physicians. In 2003, Dr. McKeag led a sports medicine delegation of physicians to Vietnam, sponsored by People to People Ambassador Programs, and he was the conference chairman for Rendezvous 2004, an international symposium on sports medicine. He serves on the editorial boards of nine medical journals and has completed two books.
